luarvik luarvik
The founding members of Luarvik Luarvik, named after a robotic expressionless character of an Estonian cult sci-fi movie "Hukkunud alpinisti hotell" were Mihkel Kleis (keyboards), Andres Lõo (drums) and Martin Uustulnd (bass). They started as a blend of powerful and forward driven progrock, influenced by Baltic legends Radar and Zodiac, but soon discovered their own sound. With time Luarvik Luarvik started to introduce elements of improvisation and became more experimental, putting out their self published first tape "Baltic Station Session" portraying their early face. After rejecting the bass, Luarviks continued as a duo, incorporating guest musicians for their different projects. The music changed and infused elements of 70s progrock, such as Soft Machine and other Canterbury acts, Miles Davis mixed with 80s Continental noiserock and psychedelia. The Luarviks however were cautios not be filed under a preset category and kept on surprising the audiences in live concerts.
In 2002, MKDK Records released their album "Tabamata Ime" to positive reviews and in 2004 they recorded an album in Estonian Broadcast studios with Lauri-Dag Tüür and Kiwa, an estonian pop artist. Soon after that Andres Lõo left the band to concentrate on his solo career. and Luarvik Luarvik continued to perform as a trio, comprised of Mihkel Kleis, Lauri-Dag Tüür (guitar) and Silver Ulvik (drums). They recorded their last album "Enigma variantsioonid" in 2008, where they employed Roomet Jakapi (Kreatiivmootor) as a vocalist and then disbanded. Mihkel Kleis continues to perform with his solo project EDASI.
