atlas
The ensemble Atlas has been active in Estonia since 2003. Atlas concentrates on arranging Caucasian, mainly Armenian, folk tunes as well as Turkish traditional dances. Although oriental traditional music plays an important role in the repertoire of Atlas, the ensemble doesn’t claim on authenticity. It is rather that they are trying to find a common ground between Eastern and Western music. In their arrangements they proceed first and foremost from their own musical experiences, thus it may happen that some Caucasian folk songs get another, crisp Nordic sound. Atlas was founded by Brigitta Davidjants who studied in Yerevan State Conservatory for a year. For the members of the ensemble it is not, however, their first musical group. Some of them have education in classical music, others began their performances in early music or alternative bands. Also see artists > hundva.
